An Interview with Jarkko Perkiö – Production Foreman – at Atexor Oy

Posted on: 17.10.2018

As part of our series of interviews with Atexor’s team members – who all play an integral role in the success of the business – we have taken the opportunity to interview Atexor Oy’s Production Foreman, Jarkko to find out more about his time working for the company.

How long have you worked as a Production Foreman at Atexor Oy?

I began working in production for Atexor in 2003 – so 15 years ago! Four years into joining the business, I was given the opportunity to progress my career with the company and promoted to Production Foreman.

Why did you choose to work at Atexor and what has made you want to stay with the company for so long?

The first thing that drew me to Atexor was the impressive technologies that the company was using and investing in. This very much remains to be the case today and I strongly believe this continues to place the business at the very forefront of the Ex lighting industry in which we operate.

When I was younger, I used to make scale models in my spare time, and this passion for building things with the upmost precision continues today. I really like the fact that not many people can say their job is also their hobby –-and this is something that is very true for me – and is also one of the main reasons why I really enjoy working for Atexor.

When I first started, the company was smaller then it is today and I, along with many others have essentially grown up with it. As such, it has been great to be part of the impressive innovations that Atexor has manufactured and we are very proud across all departments of what the company has achieved. I also look forward to being part of Atexor Oy’s future production.

What does your role typically involve?

My role plays a part in the production process as I am responsible for looking after all the products together with all the workers within our warehouse facilities. Typically, I will clear orders, determine what is the priority for each day and take care in ensuring the quality of each product is the very best it can be.

Often, I will give all workers in the warehouse certain jobs in which I know that they will thrive in doing. This means that they deliver the best results and our products are developed with speed, without compromising on quality.

Ultimately, I try my very best to find the smoothest solutions for challenges that we may encounter and ensure that the whole production process is as streamlined as it possibly can be.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

That’s a tricky one, there’s so many things that I could list for this question, but most importantly, I enjoy working with such great people at Atexor Oy. We all get along really well whilst remaining professional at all times and we all have the company’s best interests at heart.

I also love that everyday is different and the fact that there’s always something new to learn allowing me to constantly improve. Atexor Oy is very good at developing its staff within the company which means we all continue to grow.

Since joining the company, what training have you done and what research projects are you working on that the moment?

Research projects studies are, in fact, related to the measurement of work. I can’t go into much detail about this as it is still ongoing here but, rest assured, we have some new and exciting things lined up for Atexor Oy.

I graduated a couple of years ago in leadership training which has really benefitted my role on a daily basis. There was also a technology specialist vocational qualification which was great. I feel like undertaking such training has helped to ensure that the company’s production runs as smoothly as possible whilst ensuring that we work to the very highest ATEX standards each and every time.

What do you enjoy most about working with Atexor products?

Again, I was greatly impressed with the technologies in particular the LED lighting. I really enjoy the management and process behind each product, how they are manufactured and how they all hold different capabilities.

I also like the thrill of a challenge, not everything will work first time and that’s the beauty of Atexor Oy, we share our capabilities and knowledge to determine what the issue is and how it can be rectified instantly.

What passions/hobbies do you like to do in your spare time?

I make woodworks in my spare time as I have my own garage. In there are some machines and tools where I make various furniture and sometimes goods for my home, family and friends.

I also attend a woodwork club, which is held in a technical school classroom every week. In this, we make woodworks, chat and think of new and improved ways of making and creating these.
